ArtisanCam is a free arts education website
which introduces key stage 2 and 3 schoolchildren and their teachers
to the world of contemporary visual art and contemporary visual
artists in fun and exciting ways.The site uses video and online
art workshops to inform and educate.Schoolchildren and their teachers
can see contemporary visual artists such as Lizzie Farey, Carla
Edwards, Hannah Lamb, Maddi Nicholson and Rebecca Chesney working
in their studios via specially recorded video clips or learn how
to create their own artwork from a wide range of interactive art
workshops and art games including How to make jewellery; How to
make a collage; How to weave and How to Sculpt. Artists featured
in the activties section include Canelleto, Patrick Heron, Edward
Bawden, John Constable, the Singh Twins and Lois Walpole. Have a
go activities include slip decorator, card studio and jewellery
designer. There are lots of interactive art activities, as well
as art games in our games gallery. Teachers can learn alongside
their pupils with innovative step-by-step classroom workshops led
by a contemporary visual artist or a virtual activity, making it
an invaluable free arts resource for teachers in the classroom.
Every term ArtisanCam features a new artist-in-residence, as well
as exploring behind the scenes at large exhibitions such as the
British Art Show 6, Antony Gormley’s Field for the British Isles
and Andy Goldworthy’s exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Recent
additions to the website have included Andy Goldsworthy, Antony
Gormley, Gordon Cheung, Maddi Nicholson, Paul McLaren of Shademakers
carnival company, Umlando Wezithombe who are drawing the life of
Nelson Mandela in comic book form, Loop.ph and their sculpture for
Kew Gardens in London, and Paul Scott. ArtisanCam is delivered by
a partnership of artistsatwork.org. Notion 23 and CLEO (Cumbria
and Lancashire Education Online), one of ten regional broadband
consortia providing broadband technology and educational content
for schools in England, ArtisanCam is CLEO's contribution to the
National Education Network, NEN.
