British Art Show - teachers
You can include ArtisanCam in your teaching in a number of ways, from classroom activities guided by the classroom workshop video clips to research using timelapse, techniques, influences or questions sections or using the interactive online learning tools. Featured artists usually have seven sections and the table below will tell you what you should expect to see:

British Art Show 6 at Baltic, Gateshead
Autumn 2005

Through using the site, and being encouraged to discuss and analyse traditional and contemporary galleries, exhibitions and artwork, pupils will know, do or understand the following:

  6. understand the roles of the various people involved in creating an exhibition [see 'behind the scenes]
  7. understand that an artist can use the gallery space in various ways [see 'timelapse']
  8. make comments about artwork and decisions about their own taste [see 'workshops' - 'visiting an art gallery workshop' and 'audience'].
  9. to review what they and others have done, say what they think and feel about it and what they might change.
  10. realise that there are contemporary artists who create art as a living [passim].

The British Art Show timelapse was filmed at Baltic, Gateshead. Following its first showing at Baltic, it toured to the cities of Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol. British Art Show 6 was a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition.
techniques
The British Art Show 6 from Baltic was installed using Baltic and Hayward Gallery staff. The curator interviewed is Pippa Coles, Baltic. The Technician interviewed is employed by the Hayward Gallery and the artist interviewed is Hew Locke.
audience
Year 7 pupils from various schools were interviewed in front of work at Baltic. The works they chose to discuss are Hew Lockes work 'El Dorado' (2005), Gordon Cheungs painting 'Breughels Highway' (2004), Gary Webbs sculpture 'Mrs Miami', (2005) all part of the touring exhibtion British Art Show 6
classroom workshops
The exhibiting classroom workshop is led by Cherie Trelogan who is the education officer for Abbot Hall Art gallery, Kendal and the Lakeland Arts Trust. She looks at traditional portrait, still life and landscape work and suggests ways of looking and questions that might be asked in front of similar work in other galleries. She also looks at contemporary works and finds similarities and contrasts with traditional work.
