Rebecca Chesney - teachers
You can include ArtisanCam in your teaching in a number of ways, from classroom activities guided by the classroom workshop video clips to research using timelapse, techniques, influences or questions sections or using the interactive online learning tools. Featured artists usually have seven sections and the table below will tell you what you should expect to see:
general
Through using the site, and being encouraged to discuss, reflect on contemporary sculpture and by creating and modifying the work they produce, pupils will know, do or understand the following::
  1. identify the materials used in sculpture [see 'workshops' - 'sculpture workshop'].
  2. identify techniques used in producing sculpture using a variety of materials [eg. fence posts, plastic sheeting, Perspex, photography 'timelapse and techniques: installation, see also Trudi Entwistle'].
  3. use disposable cameras and digital cameras to produce images, edit their work either with scissors and glue or using simple photo editing software, the software used in the video clips is Photoshop Elements[see 'workshops' - 'classroom photography workshop'].
  4. create a photo collage based on photographs of textures [see 'workshops' - 'classroom photography workshop'].
  5. analyse photographs of textures and make comments about why some images are more acceptable to us than others [see 'workshops' classroom photography workshop''].
  6. realise that there are contemporary artists who create art as a living and who derive their income from commissions and residencies [passim].
  7. understand the motivations behind the choice of art as a career ['questions'].
  8. understand that an artist's relationship with nature and a place can influence their work ['questions, timelapse'].
  9. to review what they and others have done, say what they think and feel about it and what they might change.
  10. to make comments about the work, showing understanding of why these materials were used.['timelapse, techniques, questions]
You may find other ILOs equally or more applicable to your pupils' needs.

timelapse
Rebecca Chesney was in residence at the Wordsworth Trust in the Lake District for a month. Photography is an important element of her work even though it does not appear in the final piece.
techniques
Rebecca Chesney is demonstrating techniques used in the production of her work for the Wordsworth Trust in the Lake District. Photography is an important element of her work even though it does not appear in the final piece.
influences
Rebecca Chesney chose to visit Kielder Forest and discuss Skypace by James Turrell. The pupils researched sculpture on the internet and the three pupils featured chose to discuss works by Antony Gormley, Henry Moore and Edward Tufte. Links to relevant websites are lower down this page. Thanks to the artists for allowing us to use images of their work. Henry Moore's work, Two large Forms, was photographed at Yorkshire Sculpture park, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
classroom workshops
The photography classroom workshop is led by artist Louise Taylor whose work is based on digital manipulation of images. She contrast two ways of working with disposable cameras and digital cameras. The activity used a mixed group of year 5 and 6 pupils from a small rural school.

The photography workshop shown uses the following materials:
  1. scissors and glue sticks
  2. disposable cameras, the cameras used in the workshop had 27 exposures and flash but the flash facility is not essential
  3. digital cameras and computer editing software, the software used in this workshop is Adobe Photoshop Elements which is available for pc and mac.

You may also find these things useful:
  1. A tripod

Tips

  1. Disposable cameras have a simple lens and are not capable of photographing subjects closer than a metre
  2. When collaging the prints from the disposable cameras do not allow the children to use textures as themselves eg. a picture of grass to depict grass.
  3. The basic processes in Photoshop of importing and cropping are relatively easy to master in small groups
questions
The artist answers various questions about her work.
